Administrative Assistant/Breaker/Substitute Lead Teacher

Brief Description:

The position of Administrative assistant/Substitute teacher consists of providing office support for LLEA as well as substituting as a preschool teacher when necessary. This position includes interacting and developing relationships with LLEA staff, parents, volunteers and other community peers. This position is full time.


– 12 units in core child development classes (or willingness to go back to school to
– High school graduate
– Proficient with computer skills including excel, word, publisher and powerpoint
– Familiarity with office equipment e.g. Photocopier
– Great communication skills and telephone etiquette
– Effective interpersonal and public relations skills
– Knowledge of childcare setting
– Ability to work independently
– Experience working with preschool children
– Ability to multitask- prioritize more important tasks while maintaining a good handle on others
– Knowledge of Spanish is an asset
– Must hold a current pediatric first aid care issued by the Red Cross, CPR certification, completed 16 hours of health, safety and nutrition training or attend trainings prior to school commencing
– Current on all vaccines including TB, MMR, DTAP and the flu shot
– Fingerprint and background clearance


– Complete a bimonthly Title 22 checklist on classrooms
– Review sign in/out books for accuracy and bill for no sign in
– Assist in creating staff schedules and have knowledge of who is where when
– Manage directors calendar by promptly adding meetings, events and deadlines and offering reminders
– Receive, document and organize materials brought into the center
– Take and receive phone messages and emails
– Give parent tours
– Take over classroom teacher duties while teacher is on their break
– Call and organize substitute teachers
– Monitor children placed in isolation area due to illness
– Assist in preparing and delivering snack and lunch
– Substitute as lead teacher if a substitute is not available
– Assist director in any additional needs
– Call parents immediately to report any student injury

Reporting Relationship:

The Administrative assistant reports to the director/administrator and is responsible for supervising substitute teachers and part time aids.
